How to get from Kaunas Airport to the city centre

Take city bus 29 towards Geležinkelio stotis from Kaunas Airport for central Kaunas, or compare a taxi or pre-arranged transfer for your exact address. The bus serves central stops before the bus and railway stations. A car can be more practical with substantial luggage, several passengers or an arrival that does not fit the next bus.

Bus or car: compare the complete arrival

Lithuanian Airports describes KUN as 14 km from central Kaunas. That is a general location figure, not a route measurement to your door. Save the full street address in your phone before leaving the terminal.

Taking bus 29 into Kaunas

Follow the public-transport signs and check the number and destination at the stop. For the journey into Kaunas, the destination is Geležinkelio stotis, meaning railway station. The airport's dedicated transport page and the official city timetable identify this as route 29. An older Lithuanian airport FAQ still uses 29G; follow the current timetable and stop display.

Inbound stops include Studentų skveras, Gedimino g., Kęstučio g. and Griunvaldo g., followed by Autobusų stotis and Geležinkelio stotis. Choose a stop for your final address. The railway terminus is useful for a train connection, but it need not be the right place to leave the bus for accommodation elsewhere in the centre or Old Town.

Tickets and payment

The KVT fare table listed the following standard prices without a discount on 25 October 2026:

Set up and top up Žiogas before the bus arrives. On boarding, scan or enter the vehicle's Žiogas code in the app, check that a ticket is active and show it to the driver. For bank-card payment, take one card out of your wallet, tap it at the marked reader and wait for confirmation. One card buys one passenger's ticket on that journey. Keep the same card or device available for inspection and keep your phone charged if using it. Prepare electronic payment for your arrival and check the current options before travelling. If you change buses, validate again; the airport ride can exceed 30 minutes, so do not assume a free onward transfer after reaching the centre. Journey time and the last bus

Allow for leaving the aircraft, collecting bags, waiting at the stop and the final walk as well as the bus ride. As a dated timetable example, the official schedule for 25 October 2026 has a 10:38 airport departure reaching Kęstučio g. at 11:19 and the railway station at 11:23: 41 and 45 minutes on the bus. This is scheduled time for one service, not a measured journey or a promise for your flight.

For an evening flight, open route 29 in stops.lt, choose the airport-to-station direction and inspect departures for when you expect to reach the stop. After midnight, check the next calendar date too. Recheck after a flight delay and keep an alternative journey available. Do not assume the final bus will wait for your aircraft or that the route runs continuously overnight.

Luggage and access needs

Kauno autobusai's luggage guidance allows bags without a charge when there is sufficient space and they do not inconvenience other passengers. This does not reserve space for a large suitcase. Keep bags secure and clear of aisles, and consider the walk after leaving the bus.

If step-free boarding, a wheelchair space, a child seat or assistance with bags is essential, confirm the specific vehicle and journey with the operator before travelling. A route shown on a map does not establish that every stop, vehicle and accommodation entrance meets your needs.

Taxis and transfers: confirm the offer before travelling

The airport's taxi page places its recommended taxi line outside Arrivals. Check the tariff information inside the vehicle before getting in and request a printed receipt at the end. The airport says these taxis accept cash and payment cards.

For an app booking, enter the exact address, review the complete quote and follow the pickup point shown in the app. Match the registration and vehicle to the booking. For a transfer arranged before your flight, agree the meeting point, luggage capacity, total charge and what happens if the flight is late. For a group, compare the whole vehicle price with all passengers' bus fares, including any onward journey.

A fixed taxi price would be misleading without a particular destination and offer. Check the tariff or live quote for your journey rather than using an old traveller's post as a budget guarantee.

Decide whether that walk works with your bags, the weather and your mobility needs; otherwise compare a car to the address.
